‘Has been hard on me’: 19-year-old Liverpool player says Andy Robertson is always on his case during training

Liverpool youngster Calvin Ramsay has revealed he is constantly being pushed in training by Scotland teammate Andy Robertson.

Taking to an interview with the Liverpool Echo, the Aberdeen summer arrival spoke of his long-awaited Reds debut, which came in the Champions League against Napoli over two weeks ago.

Then a week later, he was back in action – this time in the starting XI – as the Merseyside outfit knocked Derby County out of the Carabao Cup on penalties.

Succeeding this, the 19-year-old was called up to the Scotland national team. Just last night, he played 45 minutes alongside Robertson as the side fell short in a 2-1 defeat to Turkey.

“Andy is a great role model for all footballers, especially young Scottish players coming through,” said the Reds youngster.

“For me he has been brilliant.

“He has been on my case a little bit, but I think that’s been good because he has been hard on me, it’s kept me level-headed and wanting to work hard.

“I hope he keeps it up, to be honest!”

Robertson is pushing Ramsay at Liverpool

Once the Aberdeen youngster arrived at Anfield this summer, Ramsay seemed to disappear off the radar.

After revealing the club had found an issue with his back during his medical, the right-back had to go through a two-month-long rehab process before being deemed fit to play.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold out of form at times this season, some fans have called for the 24-year-old to be rotated. As a result, an out-of-position Joe Gomez was occasionally thrown in to fill the position.

However, with Ramsay now competing in and around the first-team, the Reds have a very solid option who can come in and replace Alexander-Arnold when needs be.

The 19-year-old was very impressive for Liverpool when he featured at right-back against Derby. For this performance, he was hailed for his maturity and confidence on the ball; a fantastic achievement for the teenager.

Therefore, with Robertson now pushing Ramsay during training at Kirkby, the youngster will have numerous senior players to learn from to help him succeed at Anfield.
