‘Doesn’t seem fazed’: Robertson backs Liverpool teenager to challenge the ‘world’s best’

Andy Robertson backs Calvin Ramsay to make an impression at Liverpool. He’s up against the ‘world’s best’, however.

Andy Robertson talked a lot about Calvin Ramsay this week after the latter got a Scotland call-up. After all, the pair now have quite a bit in common.

Both are Scots, both are full-backs and both play for Liverpool. Robertson, then, is well-placed to comment on the teenager.

And it’s safe to say he rates Ramsay highly. Robertson says his compatriot is impressing in training and backs him to compete at Liverpool – despite being up against the ‘world’s best’ in his position.

“He doesn’t seem fazed by a lot of things and takes everything in his stride – that’s credit to him,” said Robertson. “Everyone at Liverpool is excited to see how far he can go and I’m sure everyone in Scotland is the same.

“He’s coming up against the world’s best right-back in Trent [Alexander-Arnold], but since he’s been back in training, he’s been training really well and obviously got his reward with his debut.

“He’ll be looking for more game time – that’s how you learn and develop.”

Ramsay really does look like a special talent and it’s great to see. He may not get ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold this season but the pair of them are sure to have a fantastic battle over the coming years.

And Alexander-Arnold’s form this season shows why Liverpool want that battle. The Scouser hasn’t been at his best but with no other recognised right-backs – Ramsay battle an injury for months – he never got a break.

More than that, any positional change – as we’ve seen with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez this season – is impossible when Liverpool need Alexander-Arnold at right-back every week. Ramsay makes things a lot easier for Jurgen Klopp purely through creating further options.

Throw in his incredible talent and Liverpool have a player who should have a role for years to come. We’re just as excited as Robertson.
