Andy Robertson has predicted that Liverpool youngster Calvin Ramsay is set for a big future in football.
Ramsay has joined Robertson in the Scotland squad for the first ever time this week. And speaking to the Daily Record, the Liverpool left-back praised his younger countryman.
“It’s a really important few days for him [Ramsay] and I’m sure he’ll take it all in his stride,” said Robertson. “He has an amazing future ahead of him. So long as he keeps learning and listening, his career will be special, that’s for sure.
Liverpool’s No.26 also looked ahead to the 19-year-old’s first cap for Scotland. As some of his Liverpool teammates prepares for a World, Robertson and the Scots have a friendly with Turkey. But despite the low-profile nature of the game, Robbo expects it to be a big one for Ramsay.
“It’s so important for all the boys. A cap for your country is never meaningless. People from the outside can always say, ‘What’s the point in this game?’. But when you are playing for your country, it is never meaningless,” asserted the 28-year-old.

“When it’s your first camp and potentially first cap, then Calvin and his family will all be excited. It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for him, making his Liverpool debut, getting his first start in the cup and now getting his call-up. It’s been a lot.
“But he has taken it in his stride and been brilliant since he came in. Liverpool can see the potential in him and all the staff here with Scotland too.”
Robertson lending a hand to Ramsay
It’s nice to hear Robertson speak about his own experiences and how they can relate to Ramsay.
Of course, the left-back is absolutely right – his career path took a very different trajectory. But, no matter how he got there, Robertson is a real example to the teenager.
What a bonus it can be for Ramsay to have someone of his experience so readily available. Certainly not the shy and retiring type, Robbo will be keen to lend a hand to the young man whenever he can.
Perhaps the most important part of this will be keeping Ramsay’s feet on the ground. The youngster is no doubt an impressive footballer for his age.

But plenty of talented prospects fall by the wayside at clubs like Liverpool. It’s important that having now made his debut, and being on the verge of earning international recognition, Ramsay continues to push on.
That’s what Robertson has done to his eternal credit. He’ll be instrumental in making sure the young man does the same.
You can bet that his national team captain will be the very first person to congratulate Ramsay if he wins his first cap against Turkey tonight. But he’ll also be the one who’s in his ear keeping him switched on to future challenges.
