Benfica are now very confident that they’ll receive the full Darwin Nunez fee from Liverpool, according to reports. The Reds just sent a £4.5m payment this week.

This comes from Record. They claim that Benfica now feel very confident that they’ll get the full amount from Liverpool for Darwin Nunez.

Nunez arrived in the summer for around £64m, per the Athletic. That meant he wasn’t quite Liverpool’s club-record signing, but add-ons could take him there.

In total, Nunez could cost around £87m if every add-on is triggered. Benfica now believe that will happen, especially after receiving £4.5m this week. The Uruguayan made his 10th start for Liverpool, triggering that payment.

Full Darwin Nunez fee

We always thought Liverpool could justify that kind of fee for Nunez. He ticks so many boxes for them and his talent is undeniable.

Or at least, we thought it was. The 23-year-old has faced more than his fair share of criticism for a perceived slow start, with questions around how he actually fits in. It’s certainly worth adding that those questions only came from fans and pundits of other clubs.

At Liverpool, it’s never been in doubt and we’re seeing Nunez at his best right now. His brace at the weekend was brilliant, taking him to nine goals this season already.

He’s now changing certain opinions about him and is firmly on course for over 20 goals this season. That would be a very solid debut campaign, given he’s still young and yet to fully grasp English.

We agree with Benfica that Nunez will end up triggering every add-on here, given his quality. And if that is the way it goes, he’ll feel like value for every single penny of it.

Liverpool have a special talent here and £87m won’t feel like an eye-watering fee if he becomes the player he’s threatening to be.
