Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott has congratulated Jordan Henderson on his World Cup call-up for England.

Henderson was today included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the tournament in Qatar. The Liverpool captain then took to Instagram to announce his pride at the call-up.

And who else but Harvey Elliott was there to show his pride in the skipper.

“Congratulations Skip,” wrote the 19-year-old, who had perhaps been angling for a shock call-up himself.

Liverpool still have one game to go until Henderson and fellow England man Trent Alexander-Arnold join up with their country.

Elliott made to wait for inevitable England call

Given the shortage of options that Southgate has in central midfield, Elliott might have been an outside shout, here.

The England manager is a sucker for a versatile player, and the Liverpool youngster can play a number of positions.

Besides, can anyone say with conviction that Conor Gallagher has had a better season than him? The inclusion of the £20m Henderson, Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and, to a lesser extent, Kalvin Phillips make sense.

But Gallagher hasn’t been great for a disappointing Chelsea team. Yes, he has been around the set-up before, which Southgate places importance in, but Elliott surely will be at some point regardless.

Anyway, knowing the character that Harvey is, he’ll be cheering on England as much as anyone this winter.

With a couple of Liverpool teammates involved, you can bet that he’ll be the first one offering up his support.

By the time the next tournament comes around four years from now, you’d put good money on him being on the pitch instead.
