TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has backed Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha to get into Liverpool’s starting XI, based off his recent performances.
The Ivory Coast international is out of contract at the end of the season, having reportedly rejected the Eagles’ latest extension offer.

As a result, the Daily Express have reported Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all interested in the 29-year-old, who could yet to decide to sign a pre-contract with a foreign side in January.
With ongoing injuries held by Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, McCoist believes Zaha would currently get into Jurgen Klopp’s starting squad, as he thinks the Palace man has been ‘outstanding’ this season.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, the Rangers legend claimed: “When everyone is playing well, he might not get in it. But right now you ask some of the Liverpool fans after some of the performances at Forest and some of the performances at home against Leeds, there are some fans that would take him on his current performances.”
McCoist backs Zaha for Liverpool
As serious injuries have been sustained by the club’s favoured left-sided attackers, it wouldn’t be outrageous to suggest one of the most notable players outside of the ‘Big Six’ would get into Liverpool’s XI.
With his electric pace and dazzling skill on the ball, the Ivorian poses a constant threat to Premier League defences – as previously experienced by the Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Having earned statistical comparisons to Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling and Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski, the winger clearly has the ability to emulate the contributions made by these players.

Playing in a better team who score quite a few more goals, Zaha would bag a significantly higher total compared to his tally of last season, which was 14 goals. Having already scored five in Palace’s opening 11 league games, the 29-year-old would likely have netted more in a Red shirt.
With Liverpool currently reliant on the likes of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez to score goals, a Premier League proven attacker would be a strong addition to Klopp’s squad.
Whether he would want to join the Merseyside club is another story, but with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it may be worth Julian Ward exploring the possibility.
