Liverpool could make an attempt to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha on a free transfer next summer.

That’s according to 90min, who claim that Liverpool are ready to throw their hat in the ring for Zaha. The 29-year-old is reportedly ‘assessing his options’ as he nears a Palace exit.

Zaha is said to be ‘dreaming’ of playing Champions League football and may make a decision on his future based on that.

Chelsea are claimed to be one of the most interested parties, while Arsenal are also said to be ‘admirers.’

Liverpool, meanwhile, are reportedly one of ‘several’ other teams who could make a late run at Zaha. PSG, Inter and AC Milan are three teams named as being ‘watchful’ of his situation from the continent. A January sale is also said to be not out of the question.

Reds looking for cost-effective squad option

Rumours of Liverpool’s interest in Zaha seems to have intensified over the last week or so. Due to his inflated transfer fee, the Ivorian has never felt like a realistic option for the Reds.

But with his contract coming to a close, he could be an attractive looking option for Jurgen Klopp.

Should they bring Zaha in though, it certainly wouldn’t be to play in their strongest XI. Rather, he would provide terrific cover for the likes of Luis Diaz on the Liverpool left.

Carragher gives his verdict on Zaha to Liverpool

Despite his potential to be ‘unstoppable’ – as described by Clinton Morrison via The Daily Mail – he hasn’t always been consistent at Palace.

This has led to calls from the likes of Jamie Carragher that Zaha wouldn’t be good enough to play for Liverpool.

“I think Jack [Grealish] is in a position similar to [Wilfried] Zaha at Palace, where the type of money to get him out of the club you are talking £60 or £70 million,” the pundit told Sky Sports via Football365 back in 2020. “I don’t think they are quite good enough to play for Liverpool or Manchester City, and teams just below the top four I don’t think they’d want to pay the money to get him.”

Obviously, Grealish has since done just that, and moved to Manchester City. As the £100m man’s time at City has shown though, it’s a big jump up from the rest of the Premier League to one of the truly top teams.

It’s likely that Zaha will face that same shift in the coming months. Whether that’s at Liverpool or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
