Calvin Ramsay has admitted that he was nervous ahead of making his Liverpool debut against Napoli last night.

Reds fans finally got their first glimpse of the 19-year-old playing for the first team, as he came off the bench for the final 10 minutes.

And speaking to LFCTV after the game, Ramsay owned up to having a few nerves.

“I was a bit nervous to be honest. Since I came to the club I have been injured. I have been with the 21’s and building up my fitness, but to be back in the first-team squad and come on with my family there is a moment I won’t forget,” said the youngster.

You’d never have known it. Ramsay pulled off a lovely little Cruyff turn within seconds of entering the pitch. Hopefully the first of many appearances for the club.

Ramsay ready to kick-start Liverpool career

Ramsay’s cameo last night was one of the biggest positives on a good night for Liverpool.

It may have only been 10 minutes in what was effectively a dead rubber, but it was still a big moment for the Scot. Having only made his debut for Aberdeen two-and-a-half years ago, it has been a rapid rise for him.

Furthermore, he can now be a legitimate option for Jurgen Klopp. As Trent Alexander-Arnold struggles a little for form, that’s important.

Klopp has previously spoken about his expectation for Ramsay to be a first team player. He may only be nineteen, but he’s clearly ready to play his part.

So far, that part hasn’t been very much. But with his fitness problems now behind him, he should get minutes.

For Ramsay, it’s a shame that the World Cup break comes just as he’s ready to get going. For Liverpool generally though, the timing couldn’t be better.

As long as the teenager can maintain his fitness for the New Year, we should see plenty more of him this season.

Both Joe Gomez and James Milner have filled in well at right-back so far this campaign. But what a difference it could make to have a player natural in the position to give Trent a rest every now and again.
