Trent Kone-Doherty put on a show as Liverpool U19s thrashed Napoli in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday afternoon. The 16-year-old could be a star.
Trent Kone-Doherty took his opportunity on Tuesday as Liverpool Under 19s hosted Napoli in the UEFA Youth League. The 16-year-old, who arrived from Derry in the summer, finished with two goals in a 5-0 win.
The young forward was on hand to tap home from close ranger for his first, putting Liverpool 4-0 up. Great work from Bobby Clark created havoc as the Reds worked a shot. A save from the keeper let the ball spill out and Kone-Doherty found the net.
He wasn’t done there, though, as Liverpool again piled pressure on Napoli. Ben Doak hit the post before the youngsters won the ball back in midfield. They then worked it out to Kone-Doherty, who left his man for dead on the left-hand side of the box.
A burst of pace was too much for any defender, while the finish didn’t give the keeper a chance, either. Kone-Doherty looked electric here. A 16-year-old with growing confidence and eight goals this season.
Trent Kone-Doherty shines for Liverpool U19s
Liverpool were fantastic against Napoli – that can’t be overstated. The Reds tore their opponents to shreds in that second half, giving up no chances and scoring four. They could have had even more, honestly.

Kone-Doherty certainly deserves praise, as does Doak for his fantastic goal. Clark was another standout, while Luke Chambers scored excellently himself for Liverpool’s third goal.
This young team – one lacking free-scoring Oakley Cannonier – looked levels above Napoli here. They were too quick, too skilful and we wonder just how far they can go in the UEFA Youth League.
Based on this performance, they’ll put up a fight against anyone. Liverpool’s selection of young talents continue to impress.
