Report: What Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones angrily did after the final whistle blew against Leeds

Liverpool players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones stormed off down the tunnel shortly after the final whistle blew against Leeds, according to the Liverpool Echo.

With Anfield already emptying before Crysencio Summerville’s late winner, the Reds’ XI were never going to be met with huge crowds of supporters when full-time was called.

Whilst a couple of players stayed around to applaud the fans after a difficult display, two noticeable admissions were picked up on in their absence.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the only two Scousers in the team – Alexander-Arnold and Jones – were saw storming off down the tunnel moments after the final whistle blew, failing to truly acknowledge the fans.

Although this may seem like a huge accusation, in reality the pair were likely disappointed with their contributions and the side’s underwhelming loss.

As the only two local lads in and around the starting XI, the dismay at dropping points will always cut a little closer to home for the Scouse duo.

This is also the case for criticism, for which these two have previously suffered the brunt of. Due to their local connections, pundits have sometimes been quick to attack Alexander-Arnold and Jones at low points in the past, claiming the two benefit from longstanding bias.

However, arguably, this opposes the truth. As local youngsters, the pair suffer criticism due to being academy products – rather than the other way round – as it is an easy target for critics to abuse.

Having played for the club since they were young boys, comments at Anfield are likely to affect Jones and Alexander-Arnold much more. At just 21 and 24 years old, they are still young – making their success all the more remarkable. Thus, dealing with widespread criticism can only be difficult.

Therefore, whilst they should really have stayed behind to applaud the fans, emotions at the moment are running high and a further loss wasn’t going to do anything but exacerbate that, so the Scousers should be excused on this occasion.
