Tyler Morton ‘didn’t expect’ to rock up at Blackburn Rovers and play a brand of Jurgen Klopp football. That’s what he’s getting, though.
Tyler Morton is impressing at Blackburn Rovers this season, following in the footsteps of Harvey Elliott. There is one big difference from their respective spells, however – the manager.
Elliott played under Tony Mowbray but he left the club this summer. Jon Dahl Tomasson, the former AC Milan striker, replaced him and is making a great impression himself.
Morton likes what he sees, anyway, and says there are similarities in the style of play to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
“It’s pretty similar to be honest,” said Morton, per Football Daily. “I didn’t expect it, but the way he plays is high intensity footy, and that’s what I’ve been playing at Liverpool.
“So, I feel like I suit that style of play. I’ve adapted really well and I’m just enjoying my time.”
Morton also talked about the Reds’ two previous Blackburn loanees, Elliott and Leighton Clarkson. Fortunately, he’s got friends in the game helping him out with his loan move.
“I’m really close with both of them [Leighton Clarkson and Harvey Elliott],” he explained. “They were telling me all about it, all about that lads and I know Ty [Tyrhys Dolan] from England and I know Clint [Mola] who’s come in.
“It just settles you in really well.”
Tyler Morton finds another Jurgen Klopp
Stylistically, then, he’s found another Klopp. Though, that will likely have been a major reason why Liverpool wanted to send Morton to Blackburn.

Having your youth players simultaneously get exposure at senior level while learning your specific style of play is just ideal. It’s difficult to find – especially when you’re dropping down leagues – but Liverpool appear to have done it here.
Morton is certainly coming out of this spell well. He’s earning rave reviews for his displays and found a place in England’s U21 squad. By the end of the season, he may just have a case for place in Liverpool’s squad.
Meshing with Tomasson’s style of play is a big factor there – and it sounds as though it prepares him perfectly for Klopp’s own demands.
