‘Controlled the match’: Media rave about 19-year-old Liverpool loanee’s display yesterday

Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton has received a glowing review for his Man of the Match performance for Blackburn Rovers yesterday.

Morton starred for Blackburn as they beat Rotherham United 3-0. And the Liverpool loan star’s display obviously caught the eye of local media Lancs Live.

Giving the 19-year-old an eight out of ten, it was claimed that he ‘controlled the tempo’ of the match. Morton reportedly showed some ‘lovely touches’ and ‘quick feet’ as he put in his ‘best game in a Rovers shirt.’

As per Blacburn’s official Twitter account, the Liverpool academy graduate was also given the official Player of the Match award. Great going, Tyler!

Morton showing his class, Liverpool missing out

On the day where Liverpool’s summer midfield addition was ruled out for up to four months, this is bittersweet news.

Sweet obviously in the sense that it’s brilliant to see Morton doing so well. He’s clearly got plenty of ability and is hopefully developing his physicality whilst in the Championship.

But it’s bitter, too. From a selfish point of view, there’s no reason why Morton couldn’t have been in the Liverpool squad this season.

He may not be a glamorous name and he’s got some growing up to do maybe. But the teenager has already shown that he is capable of mixing it with the Liverpool first team.

Jurgen Klopp certainly thinks so, even raving about Morton in the pre-season just gone.

Perhaps it’s for the best that the England U21 international goes out and gets minutes in his legs, though. He’s already played 885 minutes of football for Blackburn. That’s significantly more than the 544 he played for Liverpool in the whole of last season.

As the season moves on, he looks sure to play a big role for his temporary club. As Rovers currently sit just three points off the top of the table, he may even play a part in a promotion push.

That kind of experience can’t be replicated. So, despite the potential drawbacks for Liverpool in the short-term, the future benefits of this arrangement can’t be questioned.
