Andy Robertson shared what he told Darwin Nunez at half-time of Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Ajax tonight. The Uruguayan wasn’t happy.

Darwin Nunez had a game to remember against Ajax on Wednesday as Liverpool won 3-0. Either side of half-time, the Uruguayan found himself with chances to score.

One, it should be said, was far easier than the other. Nunez had one just before half-time as Roberto Firmino put it on a plate for him. The striker fired what should have been a tap-in against the post, however.

Firmino couldn’t believe it, no one could believe it. It sounds as though Nunez couldn’t, either, and Andy Robertson says the player went in at half-time ‘angry’. Fortunately, the Scot had some words for him – if he understood.

“Darwin was in at half-time really angry at himself,” Robertson told BT Sport. “Disappointed with himself for missing that chance.

“I sat next to him in the changing room and I don’t know if he understood a word of what I said but I told him ‘I’ll put a cross on your head and you’ll score no problem’.

“So maybe we need to say that more often!”

Well, Robertson was right. It wasn’t long into the second-half that Liverpool won a corner and the Scot pinged one right to Nunez.

It was a difficult chance, admittedly, but that seems to make things easier for Nunez. He glanced the header into the corner while holding off multiple defenders. The man is an enigma.

That just about sums Nunez up, really. Liverpool have a player who finds chances galore – he’s like a magnet for the ball at times. The team just needs him to finish the easy ones.

Fortunately, Nunez knows the problem if he’s heading in at half-time angry. It works for him, clearly, as he put away his very next chance.

Once he starts scoring them, he’ll be an absolute phenomeon.
