Jurgen Klopp has joked that he’s getting annoyed with how good-looking and smart Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is.
Speaking to Amazon Prime, Klopp was asked about his goalkeeper by presenter Laura Woods. “What a guy, eh?” said the Liverpool boss. “Extremely good-looking, an outstanding goalie and smart as well.”
“He’s got everything, it’s quite annoying actually isn’t it,” joked Woods. “Yeah, I know, I think the same actually!” replied Klopp.
A nice little moment which showed just how highly the Liverpool manager thinks of his No.1. We’re all there with you Jurgen, the man is a legend.
Alisson to the rescue for Liverpool, again
It wasn’t actually the best of starts from Alisson last night. The 30-year-old put his team in trouble twice in the early stages with miscued clearances.
But from that point on, the Brazilian was near-perfect. In the end, they had him to thank for the three points, as he superbly kept out Jarrod Bowen’s spot-kick just before half-time.
James Milner then took the plaudits for a quite astonishing block as Tomas Soucek looked certain to score. But Alisson was also crucial to keeping the Czech midfielder out in the dying minutes.
His touch may or may not have ultimately deflected the shot wide. But what is certain is that he got something on it. A brilliant piece of goalkeeping.
That’s something we’ve become used to seeing since Alisson landed at Anfield in 2018. Over the last season-and-a-bit though, he has taken things up a notch.
Last season was perhaps his best in a Liverpool shirt. Had it not been for Thibaut Courtois’ astonishing Champions League final display against the Reds, he would have walked away with the Yashin award for best goalkeeper at Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.
If his consistency so far this season is anything to go by, Alisson will be in with a shout at the trophy again next year.
That may depend more on what happens with Brazil at this winter’s World Cup than anything that happens with Liverpool. He’s going into the tournament in great form though, and his country are the favourites to win competition. Add the biggest trophy in football to his collection and Jurgen really will be jealous.
