Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Mohamed Salah’s display for Liverpool against Manchester City was ‘scary.’
Speaking on his Vibe with FIVE podcast, Ferdinand insisted that Salah made a big statement against Man City at Anfield.
“Mo Salah, again, another person who’s been off the boil compared to his standards, gets an opportunity in the game and you just think ‘whoa, this is scary for the other players,'” said the pundit. “His goals and assists ratio this year is the best in the league over the course of the whole year. So, there’s no doubting his quality.
“It’s just that people are out of form for Liverpool, there’s massive injuries, Jota another injury and you’re thinking these guys they can’t pull out this win, but they went and did it. And if we’re being honest, they could have beaten them by another couple of goals, you wouldn’t have said it was out of order.”
Salah sends warning at Anfield
It was always clear that if Liverpool were to get anything from Sunday’s game, they’d need their star men to step up.
Alongside Virgil Van Dijk, Salah was perhaps the most key to that for Liverpool. Van Dijk’s battle with Erling Haaland dominated the build-up, but Mo had his own war with the Norwegian to think about.
In all likelihood, Haaland has already put the Premier League Golden Boot out of Salah’s reach. That will upset the Liverpool superstar who is notorious in his hunt for individual accolades to go with team trophies.
With the City man proving so prolific, there were question marks over where that left Salah. The new kid in town showing up the seasoned pro. It simply wouldn’t do.
Well, how about now? Mo showed up in the best way possible at Anfield. Backing up his hat-trick at Ibrox with a perfectly taken winner at the Kop end, you’d have to surmise that the King is back.
And what timing, too. Liverpool have a nice little run coming up between now and the end of the month. Three Premier League games against West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Leeds all look winnable.
That could be the perfect chance for Salah to get himself back threatening the top scorers in the league.
Liverpool’s No.11 looked like he needed something to properly kick-start the season for him. He has that now. Watch out Premier League strikers, the fun’s over.
