Fabinho clearly loved Mo Salah’s skill yesterday that helped Liverpool beat Manchester City at Anfield. The no.11 produced a moment of magic.

Liverpool needed something special to beat Manchester City and Mohamed Salah certainly produced that. Not bad for a player who has faced all kinds of criticism this season.

With 76 minutes on the clock, Salah saw an opportunity as Alisson claimed the ball. The Egyptian darted up the pitch, isolating Joao Cancelo as City’s last man. The goalkeeper punted the ball towards the pair but Salah had an awful lot to do.

Cancelo was tight to him, both with their backs to the goal. Salah, however, somehow produced a one-touch turn that left the full-back on the ground as he raced towards Ederson. A one-v-one finish – something the player saw coming – won the game.

Fabinho talked about that skill after the match and felt it was something Liverpool ‘needed’. Not that it was anything normal.

“This is not a normal goal,” he told LFCTV. “Of course, it’s not the first time we’ve scored like this, from Ali to Mo, we’ve scored a couple like this already.

“But sometimes in tight games like this we need a goal that is not so normal to score and that’s what happened today.
I’m happy for us and for Mo to score again.”

Mo Salah’s skill

Fabinho sums it all up well there. Salah produced the moment that Liverpool needed and it was something extraordinary. Every top team needs players who can produce these moments if they’re to win the biggest games.

And Liverpool certainly have that. Salah has been doing this for years now – much as he did against City last season. Moments that take a few replays just to see how he did it. That’s the level of player here and why Liverpool decided to make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history this summer.

Salah is something special and he’s shown it yet again.
