David Moyes has suggested that West Ham may be without three first team players as the take on Liverpool tomorrow.
In quotes from Football.London, Moyes said that Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson could miss the game against Liverpool. The Hammers boss also ruled forward Maxwell Cornet out of the trip to Anfield.
“Kurt [Zouma] has done a little bit of training, don’t know if it is going to make him right yet,” he explained. “Craig Dawson, we’re unsure about. Probably not much change from where we were on Sunday.
“Maxi [Cornet] has had a little bit of a calf strain, he’s getting close. He’s probably going to start training this week but he’s not ready yet, no.”
Liverpool meanwhile look set to be without Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
Liverpool heading for tricky West Ham test
Tomorrow is a big, big game at Anfield. Having beaten Manchester City on Sunday, it’s crucial that Liverpool back this up with a win over a tricky West Ham side.
The Hammers haven’t started as electrifyingly as last season, but they’ve picked up in recent weeks. Now on eleven points, a win on Wednesday would take them above the Reds.
For Liverpool, a win may see them enter the top five. In a season where Jurgen Klopp’s team have really struggled to get going, back-to-back wins would be a good way of getting back on track.
In that respect, any missing faces from the West Ham team is positive news for Liverpool. Zouma, Dawson and Cornet may not be the main threat from the visitors tomorrow, but they’re still important players – Zouma in particular.
As Liverpool have injury worries of their own, this is a sticky looking game to navigate.
But the Reds will be on a high after a win over the Champions. If Anfield can be at its vociferous best under the lights, Liverpool should win.
Klopp has a few decisions to make with regard to the line-up. Jota’s injury could even throw the new formation into doubt.
Having been so successful with it so far though, it seems likely that Fabio Carvalho will slot in to keep the 442 going. Moyes has never won as a manager at Anfield. Fingers crossed that run continues emphatically tomorrow.
