Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with what he’s seen from Fabio Carvalho at Liverpool this season.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that the Reds boss has taken note of the youngster’s ‘temperament’ and ‘ability on the ball.’
It’s also claimed that, as a result of Diogo Jota’s new injury setback, Carvalho is ‘best placed’ to benefit.
Luis Diaz is, of course, also facing a period out of the team. With this in mind, Klopp is said to be ready to turn to the 20-year-old instead.
Carvalho gets unexpected World Cup chance?
After a quiet few weeks, Carvalho has somewhat come to life again over the past week. His display against Rangers midweek was hugely encouraging, before an excellent cameo against Manchester City.
As with Harvey Elliott, Klopp’s new system appears to be a perfect fit for the Portuguese youngster.
It’s a good job too, because with both Diaz and Jota out, Carvalho is the most obvious option for the Liverpool boss.
With a hectic period of games coming up, Klopp would be wise not to lean on the 20-year-old too much. But Carvalho is clearly a very confident young man. Rather than feel the pressure, he’ll no doubt be relishing the prospect of a run in the team.
Another option for Klopp could potentially be to play Darwin Nunez from the left. The Uruguayan occupied that area of the pitch a fair bit in his own cameo against City and does like to attack from wide areas.
After showing that he’s still the same world-class forward, the focus must be on keeping Mohamed Salah central.
With Nunez possessing a blunter style, perhaps Carvalho’s more delicate technique will help to bring the best out of the Egyptian.
Before the season started, Liverpool’s No.28 stated his desire to get into the Portugal World Cup squad. That currently looks like a impossibility. But with a chance for a run in the team now coming his way, he’ll have his eyes on stepping in for Jota for club and country this winter.
