Mo Salah shared what went through his head after Ederson pulled off a fantastic save against him as Liverpool beat Man City 1-0. The Egyptian scored the decisive goal.

Jurgen Klopp pushed Mohamed Salah into a central area from the start against Manchester City. It was a direct result of his incredible hattrick against Rangers in midweek – get him nearer the goal and Salah will score goals.

That happened here, certainly. In fact, Salah had a couple of fantastic chances against City here. His first saw him through one-on-one with Ederson but the Brazilian made a sensational save to tip it wide.

So what went through Salah’s head after that moment?

“I’m not worried when there are chances, to be fair,” Salah told Sky Sports. “If I miss, it’s fine. In my mind, it’s going to come again.

“I’ll start to worry more when there are no chances for me but today, we created chances. When I missed the first one, I was calm because I knew the second one was going to come.”

No surprise whatsoever that Salah wasn’t fazed by the miss. Not that it was really a miss – he did everything right but so did Ederson.

Salah’s strength has always been that he finds chance after chance, though. He showed that incredibly here, threatening constantly. It’s a massive reason why playing him centrally could transform the Reds’ 4-4-2 formation.

Teams simply can’t contain him as soon as there’s a bit of space for him to play in. Giving him a strike partner means that space is inevitable – and the goals are, too.

So we expect to see a lot more of Salah playing through the middle in this system. Honestly, we love it – and he’ll win Liverpool plenty of points there.
