Toni Kroos says reported Liverpool target Fede Valverde is now ‘top three in the world’ after his recent performances. The Real Madrid star is on fire.
Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, piling further misery on the Catalonians. Barca will almost certainly fail to progress in the Champions League after their midweek draw against Inter and now they’ve given up ground in the race for La Liga.
Real, though, are on top of the world. Players all over the team are catching the eye but there might be one standout this season – Fede Valverde. The Uruguayan seemingly plays everywhere for them and he registered another goal this weekend, scoring the second in El Clasico.
That’s goal no.4 of his league season – already a personal best. The 24-year-old can seemingly do the lot and earned high praise from Toni Kroos after the game.
“Fede Valverde [is] top 3 in the world right now,” he wrote on Twitter.

Real Madrid gave up a sizeable chunk of cash to keep Valverde at the club for this season. Reportedly, Liverpool informally offered £86m to sign him before the transfer deadline, per AS.

Real said no, however, and it seems increasingly unlikely that Liverpool will pry Valverde away from the Santiago Bernabeu anytime soon. He’s quickly blossomed from being a very promising young midfielder into one of the world’s best.
The comparisons with Steven Gerrard seem apt – making it all the more frustrating that Real said no to a summer transfer. At this rate, he’ll give them serious pause for thought when it comes to Jude Bellingham in 2023.
Maybe that’s the best Liverpool can hope for, then. Real may decide they don’t need the young Englishman, after all. Certainly, it’s difficult to know why you’d need a new midfielder when Valverde is playing like this.
