Reported Liverpool target Fede Valverde is thrilled with comparisons to ‘world idol’ Steven Gerrard. The Real Madrid player has his fans.
Luis Suarez made some interesting comments last week as he claimed Fede Valverde reminds him of former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard. And he wasn’t the only one to make that comparison.
“He has similar attributes,” Suarez told Marca. “A box to box, with punch, change of pace, a lot of arrival… I don’t want to compare, but the characteristics are similar.”
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti then backed that opinion up.
“He has many things from Gerrard,” he said, per ESPN. “It’s very good for him to be compared to a player who had this success.”
And now Valverde himself has addressed the comparisons. It’s safe to say he loves them, labelling Gerrard a ‘world idol’.
“It’s spectacular when you are compared to such a player, to a star, a world idol, not just a Liverpool one,” he told Infobae. “It’s amazing.
“I see characteristics of him, obviously, I’m not going to say no, but one always looks out for one self. I also want to leave my name and my mark in the world of football, not just Madrid but in the national team.”
Valverde addresses Gerrard comparison
It’s a particularly notable comparison because Liverpool want Valverde. That’s the line from AS, who claim there was an £86m offer from the Reds at the end of the transfer window.
Real rejected it but that doesn’t mean the pursuit ends there. With both teams chasing Jude Bellingham next year, that might open the door for Valverde to really follow in Gerrard’s footsteps.
Certainly, he’d be an outstanding signing. The Uruguayan is a fantastic player and one Liverpool would be lucky to have. If the chance is there, we’d love to see the South American Gerrard on Merseyside.
