Roberto Firmino has been praised for handing a Rangers ball boy his shirt after Liverpool’s 7-1 win on Wednesday.
The Liverpool star was spotted calling the young boy over via the UEFA Champions League official Twitter account.
“Class from Firmino,” wrote the account, as Bobby is seen passing over the shirt with a trademark grin.
The Liverpool forward could have been forgiven for holding onto the souvenir of a fine personal performance. But ever the giver, Firmino clearly felt the youngster would treasure it more. Never change, Bobby.
Firmino shows his best side at Ibrox
This just encapsulates everything that Liverpool fans have loved about Roberto Firmino for years.
After the kind of display he put on at Ibrox, some players would be hogging the limelight. No doubt certain players would let it go to their heads as they conducted post-match interview after post-match interview.
Not Bobby, though. Instead, the only interview he gave after the game was to praise hat-trick hero Mohamed Salah.
His quiet, smiley nature have endeared him to Liverpool fans like few other players. That’s all part of what would make it such a wrench to see him leave next summer.
The other part of that is, of course, his footballing ability. Firmino’s brilliance may have been a little scarce last season, but we’re seeing it in full effect now.
There could even be a case made that, right now, he is Liverpool’s most important forward player.
That might sound silly with Salah looking back in the mood and Darwin Nunez finding his feet. But Firmino has brought the best out of so many who he’s played with.
Salah’s best football has come when his Brazilian teammate has afforded him the room to come in off the touchline. His unselfish assist for Nunez on Wednesday showed that he’ll be key to getting the Uruguayan firing too.
So, whether this is his last season at Anfield or not, he looks set to play a key role yet again. Let’s enjoy him while we can.
