FSG have reacted to reports that they’re plotting a sensational bid for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux, the Liverpool owners ‘smiled’ when they learned of the rumours.
But rather than any confirmation of interest, this reaction is said to be one of humour. That’s because Liverpool reportedly ‘clearly’ can’t afford to sign Mbappe.
In fact, this outlet go as far as saying that the 23-year-old joining the Reds would be ‘unthinkable.’ Not because of any slight on the club itself, rather because totalled up, Mbappe’s wages would come to over £400m across five years.
For owners who pride themselves on a ‘sustainably’ run club, it isn’t hard to imagine FSG’s reaction to such numbers.

Mbappe kicks off another soap opera in Paris
It’s going to be fascinating to see how Mbappe’s transfer situation plays out over the next two windows. After the song and dance that preceded his extension with PSG, it could be quite the show.
At this point, it seems virtually impossible that Liverpool will be any kind of character in that particular soap opera.
From the outside looking in, it still seems as though Mbappe is trying to gain some leverage at his current club.
That may not be the case, though. As French journalist Julien Laurens suggested this week, the World Cup winner’s relationship with PSG is ‘broken.’
If that really is the way things are, then the world record for a transfer fee may about to be broken for the first time since 2017.
A step too far for FSG
Now, FSG certainly aren’t afraid to spend big when necessary. The fees Liverpool have occasionally spent on players like Alisson Becker, Virgil Van Dijk and Darwin Nunez are testament to that, no matter what anyone says.

But when you start getting well into nine figures for one player, there’s simply no well they’ll entertain it. And to be honest, that’s probably fair enough.
Nevertheless, until this saga is resolved one way or another, expect to see Liverpool’s name keep cropping up. Mbappe has made no secret of his admiration for the Reds in the past. He’s also previously admitted that his mother is a fan of the club.
“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her,” he told The Telegraph in May.
When all is said and done though, if Mbappe ends up at Liverpool, it will be one of the shocks of the century.
