Liverpool coach Barry Lewtas delivered an injury update on Oakley Cannonier after the young striker went off against Rangers U19s.
Oakley Cannonier was fantastic once again on Wednesday afternoon as Liverpool Under 19s faced Rangers in the UEFA Youth League. The youngster, who went into the game having scored five goals in three games in the competition, added two before half-time.
The first was a fantastic spin-and-finish in the six yard box. It was a true poacher’s goal and one that showed just how wonderfully instinctive Cannonier is. His second saw Ben Doak put him through on goal with one defender blocking him from the goalkeeper.
The 18-year-old managed to weave his way beyond that defender, before three bites at the cherry finally got the ball over the line. With that, Cannonier has seven goals in four appearances for the Under 19s, to go with the two he got with the Under 21s at the weekend.
The only problem was that Cannonier had to go off immediately after that second goal. He tweaked something while wheeling away for a celebration and never got a chance to complete another hattrick.
Oakley Cannonier injury update
Fortunately, it turns out that there’s nothing serious to worry about. Coach Barry Lewtas confirmed afterwards that the substitution was precautionary above all.

“Oakley felt a bit of hamstring tightness and we didn’t want to take any risks,” he said, per the Liverpool Echo.
And so it sounds as though Cannonier will be right back in the mix. The youngster is in remarkable form – we haven’t even mentioned his two goals for England U19s recently – as he continues to show that his goalscoring qualities weren’t just suited to the U18s.
Liverpool may have a very special player here. Cannonier just keeps proving himself at every single level.
