PSG are plotting a deal to bring Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to Paris next year, with Kylian Mbappe going the other way.

That’s according to FourFourTwo. They claim that the French Champions are planning to offer Liverpool a swap for their Egyptian King.

Citing Egyptian journalist Ismael Mahmoud as a source, FourFourTwo suggest that PSG will ‘bargain’ with Liverpool to trade the two players. Marca’s Mario Cortegana is also said to have ‘affirmed’ these suggestions.

After the news that the France international is looking to leave France as soon as possible, Liverpool are claimed to be ‘at the front of the queue.’

Mbappe looking for leverage in Paris

On the face of it, this Kylian Mbappe transfer request looks like little more than a leverage attempt by the player.

Of course, there are plenty of reasons the 23-year-old would be attractive to Liverpool. They’ve long been linked with a sensational move for him and Mbappe himself has admitted that he spoke to the Reds last summer.

But he only signed a new deal at PSG in May. It would take an enormous amount of money to get him out of there. Money that Liverpool quite simply don’t have.

As a result, the only way Liverpool could entertain the idea of Mbappe joining is by using collateral. Salah is clearly the most obvious candidate for that.

Despite his form this season, it’s easy to see why he would still be attractive to PSG. Perhaps a change of scenery could reignite the 30-year-old’s form. It would also be quite something to see him alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar.

For Liverpool, the thought of losing Salah is still a galling one. He hasn’t been scoring quite so often this season, but Jurgen Klopp referred to him as being ‘unbelievable’ via liverpoolfc.com as recently as Sunday.

However, securing Mbappe in return would go a long, long way to easing the blow. Yes, he doesn’t have the defensive capability of someone like Salah, but Mbappe is a generational talent.

Bringing him in at a time when the club is struggling on the pitch would be a booming statement of ambition. Unfortunately, though, or perhaps fortunately depending on your point of view, we’d file this under ‘never going to happen.’
