No room for ‘sensational’ midfielder: Three reasons Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappé is too crazy to work

Kylian Mbappé to Liverpool is too crazy to work. The Frenchman reportedly wants out of PSG and the Reds are a contender.

Marca, among many others, report that Kylian Mbappé has requested a transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. He feels there are broken promises and wants a move as early as January.

Importantly, Marca claim that Liverpool are a frontrunner. In fact, the Reds could be the only viable option as PSG won’t sell to Real Madrid.

However, this one might be too crazy to work. Here are three reasons why Liverpool shouldn’t sign Mbappé.

Kylian Mbappé to Liverpool is too crazy to work

The money

Yeah, the money. Even if Mbappé wants to leave PSG, they’re not exactly going to let him walk for free. He’s also the world’s highest-paid player and even if he accepts a paycut, Liverpool would be paying massive wages.

And that’s while they already pay Mohamed Salah enough for him to be the fifth best-paid player on the planet. Financially, we don’t see how Liverpool could possibly make this one work.

The squad

Salah, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez; Liverpool already have a large amount of elite forwards. Spending on another one – even if he’s the best possible signing a club could make – doesn’t actually make any sense.

Can you even build an XI with that talent? Firmino could exit in the summer but that still leaves Liverpool with five forwards all expecting to start. We can’t see Jurgen Klopp making the 4-1-5 work.

The plan

Liverpool already have their eyes on a major signing in 2023. By all accounts, they’re in the mix for Jude Bellingham – a player who makes complete sense for them.

The player, who Dortmund labelled ‘simply sensational’ after his performance against Sevilla last week, is perfect. He’d play in the 4-3-3, boost the midfield that’s in need of a charge and wouldn’t cost Mbappé money.

Still, Liverpool won’t afford both. If the Reds want the smart signing in Bellingham, they’d need to pass on the crazy one in Mbappé.
