Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has claimed that the Gunners are ‘ready’ to beat Liverpool tomorrow.
Mikel Arteta has led his team to just one 90-minute win in nine attempts against Liverpool. But with Arsenal flying in the league, Tomiyasu told the Evening Standard that confidence within the camp is high.
“Liverpool is still Liverpool. Of course, it will not be an easy game. As I said everyone needs to be helping the team. But we are better than last season and we are confident to beat them. We have no fear. We are playing at home with 60,000 people behind us. We need to try and get three points,” said the Japan international.
“To be fair, the atmosphere of the dressing room is very good. We are confident and we are top of the League. We are ready to beat them. We have got a lot of games in October until the World Cup, so every player has to be ready to play, to help the team.”
Liverpool looking to tear up the form book
Going off current form, there is really only one winner of tomorrow’s battle at the Emirates. Arsenal have had a fantastic start to the season, winning nine of their ten fixtures in all competitions.
Liverpool meanwhile have struggled to properly get going, as we know only too well.
But given the Reds excellent record against tomorrow’s hosts, there should be some hope that Liverpool can tear up the form book.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are due a big win. If they’re to get their season up and running for good, then Sunday’s game is the perfect chance to do that.
It just feels a little like Arsenal are counting their chickens before they’re hatched. Form doesn’t give you any guarantees when these big games come around and Liverpool have had their opponents number in the past.
While the North London club have gone into most of those games as underdogs, that won’t be the case on Sunday.
Instead, Arteta’s team will have to deal with the pressure of being favourites against one of the league’s big boys. The hope is that Liverpool can rise to that and show them who’s boss yet again.
As we’re often told in football, form is temporary, class is permanent. Liverpool desperately need to show that this weekend and make a statement that they are still a force to be reckoned with this season.
