Jamie Carragher is the latest to weigh in on the favourites for Arsenal vs Liverpool. Sunday’s game is a massive on for both sides.

It’s Arsenal vs Liverpool on Sunday is a clash between two teams in opposite form. The home side sit at the top of the Premier League, playing their best football in a decade. They’re hoping to make a serious statement by pushing the visitors firmly out of any title race.

Liverpool, on the other hand, need to close the gap. Beating Arsenal at the Emirates would be a major statement – one to rebuild a season on. Defeat would leave them 14 points behind the Gunners.

And Jamie Carragher believes we’re seeing the end of a four-year wait when the two teams take to the pitch this weekend. Arsenal will finally be favourites for the clash.

“It was only last May when Arsenal finished fifth and it felt like Arteta’s reign was at a crossroads,” he wrote for the Telegraph. “Nobody anticipated Arsenal would have an opportunity to go 14 points clear of Liverpool in October.

“Today they are top of the league, and – for the first time since Arsène Wenger’s reign – go into a meeting with Klopp’s side as favourites.”

Favourites for Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal probably are favourites for this one. It’s a strange situation for Liverpool, then, who have been favourites in virtually every Premier League game over the last few years. Only fixtures with Manchester City fall outside of that.

But we do wonder if people are getting ahead of themselves. Liverpool’s poor performances this season have come when trying to control games with the ball. Arsenal will try to do that themselves at home.

And the one time this season where Liverpool were allowed to sit in a compact shape and counter, they beat City in the Community Shield. That was a fine performance and one they’ll attempt to replicate against Arsenal.

That doesn’t change the fact that the Gunners are favourites, though. They’re the in-form team, the home side, and a group brimming with confidence. Liverpool must recapture their best if they’re to get a win.
