Liverpool must return for Fede Valverde after a reported blow in their Jude Bellingham pursuit. The Reds supposedly love the Uruguayan.
Marca reports that Liverpool won’t be getting Jude Bellingham in 2023. Real Madrid now lead the race, with the midfielder prioritising a move there.
Real really want him, too. Both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are on their way towards retirement, making a midfield signing important. Bellingham would be the ideal replacement for either.
But that does beg the question of what Fede Valverde’s future looks like. The Uruguayan is currently playing on the right-hand side – a position he plays well but isn’t his natural fit. It seems that Real are preparing to move forward without an obvious place for him in their midfield. Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga would share the centre with Bellingham, after all.
Perhaps, then, that opens the door for Liverpool to have an alternative.
Liverpool must return for Fede Valverde
Bellingham won’t be cheap and Real will need help chasing his £130m release clause. Perhaps, then, Liverpool could tempt Los Blancos into parting with Valverde.
This is reportedly something they tried at the transfer deadline. That’s the line from AS, certainly, who believe an £86m offer was out there.

So if Liverpool do love the player, next year provides an opportunity. The Bellingham chase promises to dominate the Reds’ plans but Valverde would be a sensational alternative. An alternative that could genuinely be on the market, too, if Borussia Dortmund sell to Real.
Carlo Ancelotti certainly loves Valverde, though, and it wouldn’t be an easy transfer. He recently labelled the 26-year-old as a player with ‘lots of abilities’ – and it’s true. Valverde is seemingly good at just about everything, even without being one of the world’s best at any of it.
But Liverpool love players like that, particularly in midfield. Valverde could be an ideal fit – and he’s the player they must try for if the Bellingham chase ends in failure.
