Liverpool staff are expecting Trent Alexander-Arnold to bounce back after a turbulent few days.
The 23-year-old has been in the news this week after being left out of England’s squad to play Germany on Monday. But according to The Athletic, Liverpool aren’t worried about the impact this will have on Trent.
Instead, Jurgen Klopp reportedly ‘knows’ it will make his player even more determined to succeed.
It’s claimed that the Liverpool manager is expecting Alexander-Arnold to kick-on and show his quality ‘at both ends of the field.’
Trent back in his happy place
It must have been a relief for Alexander-Arnold to get back to Liverpool this week. Over the past few days it seems everyone has had an opinion on his situation with England.
On the whole, those opinions have generally been negative. Many of the talking heads appear to agree with Gareth Southgate’s decision to jettison him from the squad.
There has been the odd bit of praise – Harry Redknapp did call him ‘fantastic’ – but even this was followed with questions over his defending.
As ever, the best way to prove a point for a footballer is on the pitch. Should Alexander-Arnold return to his previous level then Southgate can’t ignore him.
Perhaps he still will, it wouldn’t be the first time the Scouser has been overlooked whilst in form. But that would clearly then be the coach’s problem, not Trent’s.
As The Athletic note, Liverpool’s right-back did raise his game when dropped by Southgate in March 2021. He was superb for the final months of the season and secured a spot in England’s Euro squad.
Unfortunately for Alexander-Arnold, injury meant he missed the tournament last summer anyway. As a result of that, and the events of this week, he’ll surely be desperate to show why he deserves to be on the plane to Qatar.
