Andy Robertson is highly likely to be ruled out of Liverpool vs Rangers at Anfield next week.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that the left-back is ‘expected’ to miss the Champions League game through injury.
Robertson picked up a knee problem prior to the international break. As a result, he missed Liverpool’s win over Ajax and won’t be ready to face Brighton tomorrow.
And he now looks set to miss the clash with Rangers, too. It’s claimed that Kostas Tsimikas will fill in for him throughout his spell on the side-lines.
Robbo forced to miss big personal battle
This isn’t unexpected news. It has already been disclosed that Robertson’s issue is with his knee, and knee problems can often take time to heal.
Nevertheless, it will be a blow to the 28-year-old to miss a clash with the team from his home city.
As a well-known Celtic fan, it would have been an extra special occasion for Robertson at Anfield. When fired up, the Scotland captain often plays his best football. He’d have certainly been ready for this one.
Instead, he’ll have to watch on from the stands. The atmosphere is sure to be a lively one though, and Tsimikas isn’t exactly a shrinking violet himself.
The hope will be that Robertson can return for the return fixture at Ibrox a week on Wednesday. As a proud Glaswegian, that will be a momentous game for the £160k-a-week man to be involved in.
From a footballing point of view, Liverpool should manage fine. Tsimikas is arguably in better form than Robertson and will relish a little run in the team.
Do well, and Liverpool’s ‘Scouse Greek’ could even make the spot his own for the foreseeable future.
The 26-year-old has already caused a stir off the pitch with his new haircut this week. Let’s hope he turns a few heads on the pitch at Anfield over the next four days or so as well.
