Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the performances of Sheffield United’s Sander Berge.
That’s according to French outlet Jeunes Footeux. They claim that it would ‘not be a surprise’ if Liverpool were to make a January move for the player.
But the Reds are reportedly not alone in their admiration of Berge. It’s claimed that they’ll have to do battle with all of Chelsea, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund if they want to sign the Norwegian.
Despite some suggestions that the 24-year-old has a release clause of £35m, that’s reported to be wide of the mark. Nevertheless, a bid of around £31m could reportedly do the trick.

Young Berge catches Klopp’s attention
Liverpool’s interest in Berge has been relatively long-standing. It was almost three years ago now that Jurgen Klopp is said to have told the then 21-year-old that he’s a ‘very interesting player’ via VG.
That came after the midfielder had impressed Klopp in a Champions League game at Anfield for Genk.
As a result, his subsequent move to Sheffield United just two months later came as something of a surprise. Of course, United were a bit of a different beast back then having enjoyed a stellar first half of the season in the Premier League.
Unfortunately for the Blades, that soon turned sour and they found themselves back in the Championship.

After a string of injury setbacks, Berge wasn’t able to get himself a move away from South Yorkshire. It’s perhaps because of those issues that he’s found himself in the Championship for a second year this season.
‘Concrete interest’ in the summer comes to nothing
According to the man himself though, it almost wasn’t that way. Berge recently admitted that there had been ‘concrete interest’ in him from a number of big sides in the closing days of the summer transfer window.
One of those teams is rumoured to have been Liverpool, as they searched to plug the hole in their midfield.
In the end, nothing came of that and Berge continued his impressive start to the season. Having started all of United’s 10 league games, he has three goals and three assists as they sit top of the table. Keep that up and he may not finish the season at Bramall Lane.
