Kostas Tsimikas is in line to get his third start of the season in Liverpool vs Brighton this weekend. The left-back will fill in.

This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Kostas Tsimikas will start for Liverpool against Brighton at Anfield on Saturday.

Tsimikas will fill in for Andy Robertson. The Scot picked up a problem before the international break, ruling him out of his country’s games. He wasn’t expected to return in time for Liverpool’s restart and that’s proven to be the case.

This will only be Tsimikas’s third start of the season thus far. Encouragingly, the Greek did start at left-back in Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Ajax in their last game, having also started at Goodison Park before that.

And it should be said that Tsimikas is in great form, despite his limited starts. He has three assists already this season, despite just two starts. One came from the winner against Ajax, while he also came off the bench to setup two goals in the 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth.

Liverpool, then, should be in good hands.

Kostas Tsimikas to start vs Brighton

It wasn’t too long ago that this would be a major worry, with Robertson one of the many Liverpool players who felt irreplaceable. Tsimikas’s performances last season, however, showed that he’s more than capable of thriving under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool should have enough about them to trouble Brighton, then, even without Robertson. In fact, we expect a strong XI for this one and Tsimikas non-first-choice selection in either defence or midfield.

The international break ended with few starts playing both games for their countries. Tsimikas was one of those, of course, but he should only need to push through the next week or two before Robertson’s return.

The big one will be next weekend against Arsenal. Liverpool will want Robertson for that one but if he doesn’t make it, managing Tsimikas’s fitness over the next week will be key.
