Players and coaches within the game see Jude Bellingham moving to Liverpool as being ‘an obvious fit.’
That’s according to The Times chief football writer Henry Winter. Speaking to Merseyside Sport on BBC Sounds, Winter was asked for his opinion on where Bellingham will end up next summer.
“It’s the perfect fit for Liverpool. If you talk to people in the game, coaches, other players, German journalists, it’s an obvious step for him to take,” said the journalist. “I’m sure Liverpool have done their scouting, done their due diligence but it’s not difficult to see what a talent he is.”
“I can see the fit with Liverpool but I’m sure Manchester United with the wealth they’ve got, Chelsea probably Real Madrid [will want him]. And this is the talent this kid’s got. He could walk into any midfield, any team in the world at the moment. He is that good.”
Bellingham noise keeps getting louder
This isn’t the first time Winter has weighed in on the potential of Bellingham moving to Liverpool.
Back during the summer transfer market, he tweeted that he was ‘looking forward’ to seeing the 19-year-old at Anfield next season.
These aren’t admissions that Bellingham will be coming to Liverpool. According to Fabrizio Romano, the race for the England man is set to be ‘crazy’ and the Reds are simply one of several very interested parties.
For now though, it would appear that Liverpool may be in the box seat. Whether that will change depending on Borussia Dortmund’s demands will become apparent over the coming months.
The fact that there is so much noise around Bellingham moving to Liverpool is surely a positive sign, though.
Hopefully the Reds have managed to get some kind of assurances from the player. If they can convince Bellingham that his future is best served at Anfield, they’ve got a real shot.
The chance to work with Jurgen Klopp and to have a midfield built around him must be a tantalising one. A move to Merseyside would also see him follow in the footsteps of his idol, Steven Gerrard.
This has already been an exhausting transfer saga. A few people may look a little silly if the move doesn’t end up happening. But right now, the expectation does appear to be that Bellingham is Liverpool’s to lose.
