Report: Liverpool refuse to rule out transfer for £107m South American midfielder

Liverpool won’t rule out a move for Enzo Fernández in an upcoming transfer window, according to reports. That’s despite a big release clause.

This comes from O Jogo. They claim that several teams are interested in Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernández. The Argentine moved there at the start of the year but his performances are drawing a lot of attention.

Some of that attention is from Liverpool. The Reds refuse to rule out a move, says the article and the £107m release clause doesn’t put them off.

It’s highly unlikely that Fernández moves for that clause, of course, but it puts Benfica in a strong negotiating position. Liverpool, though, would be happy to go to the table with the Portuguese giants.

Liverpool consider Enzo Fernández transfer

Liverpool did business with Benfica over the summer, of course. They signed Darwin Nunez for what is potentially a huge fee – we imagine they’d want a similar price for Fernández.

And with good reason, too. The player looks like a potential world-beater and is still only 21. There are suggestions that his name is becoming increasingly common behind the scenes at Liverpool, too.

There’s one other consideration here, too. Marca report that Jude Bellingham – Liverpool’s primary target – wants to move to Real Madrid in 2023. The Reds may need to find an alternative, then, and Fernández could be exactly that.

He’s young, picking up Champions League experience and continues to impress in every game. While he obviously lacks the homegrown status that Bellingham does, Fernández could be a wonderful alternative. Even if he’s not quite the dream signing next year.

This is one to watch, then. We like the look of Fernández a lot and if Liverpool can find a decent price, he’s potentially a fantastic signing. The Portuguese league appears to appeal to Liverpool and the midfielder may be the latest to catch their eye.
