'I would say': Alexander-Arnold now makes claim about Liverpool's 4-1 defeat against Napoli

Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted that things ‘didn’t feel right’ during Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat against Napoli two weeks ago.

Alexander-Arnold made the admission whilst speaking to Red Bull. Asked for his reaction to the alarming performance, Trent gave an honest assessment.

“I would say the result felt right because it’s what we deserved,” said the 23-year-old. “But in terms of how we played it didn’t feel right on the pitch. It wasn’t natural, it didn’t happen for us. We really needed to look at ourselves after that, it was a humbling one.”

The defeat in Naples was the absolute low point of Liverpool’s season so far. Trent and his teammates came in for some stinging criticism in the aftermath of the game. It’s good to hear the right-back acknowledge that some was perhaps deserved.

Trent still finding his feet this season

We haven’t heard too much from Alexander-Arnold throughout the season so far. Usually not shy in-front of the cameras, he hasn’t often stepped out for interviews over the last couple of months.

Perhaps that’s a way of protecting him from the glare of the spotlight. His displays have been below-par during 2022/23 and maybe he’s trying to take a step back from the media.

Whatever the reason, it’s nice to hear from him. At times this season, Liverpool’s No.66 has cut a slightly frustrated and even sulky figure.

Of course, for a player so used to success in his short career, the start of this season hasn’t followed that pattern. Maybe this is the reason for his apparent surliness.

Regardless, Trent has obviously acknowledged the need for better performances. From his own personal level and team level too, it hasn’t been what we’ve come to expect.

Thankfully, the full-back seems to be going on the right path.

“I think I’m getting there. I feel like I’m getting there personally,” he said when asked whether he’s in the ‘flow’ of the season yet.

He’ll get there. And when he does, he’s going to make so many people eat their words.
