Report: Liverpool made the highest offer for 'incredible' young talent, Bayern couldn't match it

Liverpool made the highest offer for Gavi, according to reports. It’s one that Bayern Munich couldn’t match for the Barcelona star.

This comes from Mundo Deportivo. They’re reporting on Gavi’s new contract with Barcelona, which keeps him at the club until 2026 and reportedly contains an £865m release clause (per the BBC).

Barcelona always had Gavi if they wanted him – it wasn’t a contract situation that looked likely to go any other way. The only real question was whether the Catalonians could afford to give the teenager what they said they could.

And so other clubs did try to convince Gavi otherwise. Bayern Munich were one of those, as was widely reported in recent days. However, it was Liverpool who made the highest offer for the midfielder.

As it turned out, that wasn’t enough. Barcelona found their agreement with Gavi and sealed it this week. Liverpool will have to look elsewhere.

Liverpool made the highest offer for Gavi

This was something La Porteria claimed a few months ago. They said at the time that Liverpool had put in an offer worth four times what Barcelona had.

Now, we imagine Barcelona did up their offer since then but it seems clear that the Reds made a serious push. It just wasn’t enough, unfortunately.

Gavi would have been a sensational addition to Liverpool’s midfield. Not only is he in the same age bracket as Harvey Elliott but he just continues to impress at every level. He’s a teenager who already looks like a key player for Spain at the upcoming World Cup.

Dani Alves, who worked with Gavi last season, labelled him ‘incredible’ and you get a similar impression from everyone who talks about the youngster. But Liverpool just couldn’t quite get this one done.

The Reds will need to find another young midfielder to build around. We do think they have one in mind.
