Three midfielders who could be Liverpool’s alternative to Jude Bellingham this January

Liverpool’s alternative to Jude Bellingham to be a vital decision in 2023. The Reds will enter the market for a midfielder, no matter what.

Liverpool need to invest in their midfield and it’s not exactly a secret that they like Jude Bellingham. The Athletic claims they’re ‘jostling’ with Real Madrid for the player – which explains the fight they’re facing. Even if Bellingham is perfect for the Reds, it will not be easy to land him.

Thus Liverpool need alternatives. Here we pick out three players linked with the club in recent times – and who could become a big investment next year.

Liverpool’s Jude Bellingham alternative

Moisés Caicedo

We’re big fans of Caicedo – but then, everyone is after his form in 2022. The Brighton midfielder looks like a potential star and the Seagulls reportedly wanted around £100m to sell this summer. That’s according to Graham Potter, anyway.

But if Caicedo keeps performing, such an offer isn’t impossible. We think he’s got virtually every star trait you’d want in a midfielder and Liverpool could work wonders there. The Mirror believes they’re interested and we imagine that interest is strong.

Douglas Luiz

Now, we don’t think Luiz is on the level of Caicedo – and certainly not Bellingham. What he is, though, is a fantastically average midfielder. We mean that in the best way, too, as the Brazilian does just about everything to a decent level.

Plugging him into your midfield guarantees a certain standard and we think Liverpool could improve him, too. Sky Sports believe the Reds had a look late in the transfer window. We imagine they’ll have another in January.

Ibrahim Sangaré

Calciomercato claimed in recent days that Liverpool want Sangaré and they’re not the first. Voetbal International kicked off the summer rumour mill by saying the Reds had souts watching him.

They also said that Sangaré would cost around £31m but no one jumped on that. It’s surprising, given the Ivorian looked brilliant last season. If he ends up being Liverpool’s Bellingham alternative – or even a January addition – we can see little disappointment.
