Victor Osimhen has an injury and is a major doubt for Napoli to face Liverpool, according to reports. The Reds are now big favourites.

This comes from Calciomercato. They claim that Victor Osimhen has an injury that he picked up against Lazio at the weekend. As a result, he didn’t train with the main group on Monday and is a significant doubt to face Liverpool.

Osimhen, who scored 18 times last season, leads the line for Napoli. His absence would draft in Giovanni Simeone – a player who isn’t quite the force the Nigerian is.

Napoli spent a reported £60m to sign Osimhen from Lille back in 2020. It was an eye-watering fee for the striker but he’s since gone on to prove his worth. Links to the likes of Manchester United over the summer were no surprise.

Victor Osimhen suffers injury

Liverpool aren’t in the best of form right now and a trip to Napoli is a scary one. Osimhen would be a major threat to their backline, particularly in the away fixture.

In fact, we have him down as the Napoli player to watch in this group. Funnily enough, we had Antony down as Ajax’s star but Liverpool will no longer face him. Now it seems that Osimhen could be absent, too. Ryan Kent better watch his step.

Napoli are a weaker team without their star striker. He’s a one-man force at times, able to pulls defences all over the place and the forward is a threat in just about every situation. We’re big fans.

His absence makes the struggling Liverpool favourites in Naples. It might be the break the Reds need as they look to get their Champions League campaign off to a quick start. Certainly, if Osimhen is absent – or not quite fit – Liverpool will be disappointed with anything less than a win.
