Spain and Villarreal defender Pau Torres says Anfield is the best atmosphere he’s played in front of. Liverpool have something to be proud of.
Pau Torres gave an interview to DAZN recently in which he picked the best atmosphere he’s played in front of. The Spanish centre-back couldn’t just pick one, however – he went with two.
Anfield was one and the first he named for having the best atmosphere. Torres also gave a shoutout to Hadjuk Split, though. The Croatian side clearly left an impression on him.

Torres isn’t a small-time player, either. He’s a regular for Spain now, while Villarreal played some massive games in the Champions League last season. They knocked out both Bayern Munich and Juventus on their way to the semi-finals.
The Anfield atmosphere played a part in sending them home, however. Liverpool prevailed 3-2 after giving up a 2-0 aggregate lead before half-time.
And for a player linked with a £43m move to Manchester United last summer – among others – it is nice to see the love for Anfield. Liverpool have something very special, something few teams can match.
Pau Torres hails Anfield as best atmosphere
It’s not exactly new to see a rival player hailing Anfield, of course. Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard recently called the ground the ‘loudest in the country’ at times. That came after his manager, Mikel Arteta, played You’ll Never Walk Alone during a training session to prepare for the atmosphere.
How many clubs get that kind of compliment?

Funnily enough, another Arsenal man has complimented Anfield in the past year. Cesc Fabregas picked out the ground as his favourite to play in while giving a Twitter Q+A.
It’s always fantastic to see, of course. Anfield is Liverpool’s pride and with good reason – most of the club’s greatest moments come from there, with the atmosphere carrying the side to sensational heights.
The atmosphere certainly is no myth and even rivals recognise that.
