'In the country': Arsenal star gives his honest opinion of Anfield after Mike Arteta's YNWA training idea

Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard has given his honest opinion on Anfield after a video of the Gunners training to YNWA. Mikel Arteta certainly tried something different.

You’ve probably seen it by now – Mikel Arteta having his Arsenal players train to You’ll Never Walk Alone in an attempt to prepare them for Anfield. It’s a bizarre video from Amazon’s latest All or Nothing series and it’s hard to tell if it worked.

Arsenal either lost the game 4-0 against Liverpool or drew 0-0 and went out of the EFL Cup. Those were their two games at Anfield last season and neither was a particularly positive result. The latter was certainly better, though.

So how was it for the players? Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard addressed the video in a chat with Football 365 and to be fair, he sees Arteta’s idea for what it was – a bit of fun.

“I think were all a little bit shocked in the beginning when there was music on,” said Odegaard.

“It shows the way he is. He wants to do everything to prepare the team in the best possible way. He is very creative. I thought it was nice and a fun way to prepare for the atmosphere.

“Anfield can be the loudest stadium in the country. I think it was a nice way to prepare.”

From a Liverpool viewpoint, this is all one enormous compliment. It’s a demonstration of their aura right now – teams have to try things outside of the box to find some sort of advantage.

Or in this case, merely to take away a perceived advantage.

Putting opponents into that kind of headspace is nothing but a positive thing for the Reds. In fact, Roy Keane said of the Community Shield that rival teams will be watching just out of hope that Liverpool and Manchester City fall off a bit.

They would have been disappointed. The two teams look to be at the top of their game and that’s going to leave opponents scrambling for ideas once again.

We can’t see too many trying to replicate the YNWA training idea, however.
