Liverpool agree to one factor that no other team would in order to sign Arthur Melo, according to reports. The Brazilian joins on loan.
This comes from Tuttosport. They claim that Liverpool were essentially the only team willing to cover Arthur Melo’s wages this summer.
Juventus have actually been eager to move the player on. They don’t see a future for him in their midfield and he’s become surplus to requirements.
Arthur is also on £6m per year – a hefty wage for a player you don’t actually want. No potential suitor was willing to cover those wages to take him on loan, however. Until Liverpool came along.
Tuttosport suggest this shows the financial power of the Premier League. Instead, it shows the desperation of a top club as they try to find the right midfielder late in the transfer window.
Liverpool agree to sign Arthur Melo
Look, Jurgen Klopp wanted a risk and this is it. Liverpool are going to have been by far the biggest club to go in for Arthur this summer, thus the only ones willing to cover his wages.
No one else of Liverpool’s stature would have been willing. The Reds found themselves in a rather unique position, though, of wanting a midfielder with Arthur’s exact skillset. That left them willing to look past the concerns that have held him back until now.

It also seems that Arthur has extra motivation over the next few months, too, as he wants into Brazil’s World Cup squad. He’s landing on his feet here if that’s his goal.
Liverpool will look at the £6m-a-year deal as a financially savvy one, too. It’s certainly a lot cheaper than actually buying a player, with the likes of Youri Tielemans costing £25m.
We have to wait and see what happens, of course, but Liverpool are taking a calculated risk here. One that no one else would.
