Arthur Melo has one major motivation behind wanting to move to Liverpool, according to reports. The Brazilian midfielder has a target.
This comes from Tuttosport. They claim that Arthur Melo jumped at the chance to join Liverpool on Thursday as he’s desperate to make Brazil’s World Cup squad.
Arthur currently has 22 caps for his country, but the vast majority came in 2019. In fact, he’s only had two appearances for Brazil since then.
Falling out of favour with Juventus dramatically hurt his chances of making the squad. With Liverpool, though, he’ll hope that the spotlight and work of Jurgen Klopp can propel him back into contention this winter.
Arthur Melo harbours extra motivation
Honestly, this is fantastic to hear because of the biggest criticism aimed at Arthur is a lack of motivation. Juventus fans consider him lazy if we’re being blunt about it.
But if Arthur truly wants to make Brazil’s World Cup squad, he can’t afford to slip. In fact, he can’t afford to slip with his motivation if he wants to make Liverpool’s matchday squad. The Reds just won’t stand for anything less than 100%.

It sounds as though Arthur knows that, though. We also find it hard to believe that Liverpool would move for the player unless they were convinced about his work rate. It’s a non-negotiable trait at the club.
Liverpool have three players who should be in that Brazil squad, too. Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino will all expect to be on the plane. Arthur, then, gets a first-hand look at what it will take to break into the setup.
As long as his motivation lasts, Liverpool should be able to count on the best Arthur we’ve seen to date. This loan deal is a risk, unquestionably, but it’s one that does make some sense.
