Liverpool made an attempt to bring Douglas Luiz to Anfield from Aston Villa on transfer deadline day.
That’s according to Sky Sports. In an update on their Transfer Centre blog (01/09/22 13:41), they report that Liverpool did try to sign the Brazilian with a ‘late move.’
It’s claimed that as well as Liverpool, Atletico Madrid also tried to convince Villa to sell Luiz to them.
However, Villa reportedly remain determined to keep the 24-year-old. Arsenal are said to have made a £20m offer for Luiz, but unless Leander Dendoncker joins from Wolves, their stance will remain unchanged.

Liverpool looking for another late addition?
As a result of Villa’s refusal to sell Luiz, it seems that Liverpool quickly moved onto getting a deal done for Arthur Melo.
That one currently looks like going through. But regardless of whether it does or not, some Liverpool fans would suggest that Jurgen Klopp could do with another midfielder, too.
Whether or not Luiz is the right answer to that is up for debate. He was called ‘outstanding’ by then manager Dean Smith when signing for Villa, though. He does have pedigree. It seems as though Dendoncker’s move to Villa will get done as well, which means he could be available.
If that does change their stance, it might be worth Liverpool asking the question of Villa again. With Arthur only coming in on-loan, it could be prudent to make sure The Reds have a permanent body added to the group as well.

As things stand, that feels unlikely. But perhaps it all depends on how serious Jordan Henderson’s hamstring injury is. No doubt Liverpool have fast-tracked the results of the captain’s scan to see if any more business needs to be done.
We’d still expect that Arthur would be the only trick up Liverpool’s sleeve today. As The Reds have shown already though, they’re not averse to pulling off a surprise.
This one could run right until the 11pm deadline. There appear to be several suitors for Luiz. Time will tell if Liverpool are among them.
