Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo will have a medical at Liverpool today ahead of a loan move to Anfield.

That’s according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. Writing on gianlucadimarzio.com, the transfer specialist claimed that Liverpool’s move for Arthur is ‘all done.’

The 26-year-old will reportedly jet out of Turin imminently to undergo the medical formalities.

If all goes well, Arthur should reportedly be a Liverpool player by the end of the day.

Liverpool set to sign Arthur Melo on-loan

As now corroborated by journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Arthur.

The Reds are set to sign the Juve man on-loan today. Romano has indicated that there is no option to buy included in the deal, which is still yet to be finalised.

The move will be a major surprise on a day where Liverpool simply had to sign someone.

Arthur has had a decidedly up-and-down period at Juventus after signing from Barcelona in 2020.

Having been near enough forced out of Barcelona, he has failed to fully settle in Turin. Playing around half of the games since his arrival, he hasn’t managed to nail down a place in a below-par Juve.

That doesn’t bode especially well for his time at Anfield. Neither does the fact that he has an incredibly chequered history with niggly injuries.

But still, Liverpool are signing a midfielder! Romano had suggested Liverpool may be working on a ‘secret’ deal and it turned out they absolutely were. Arthur is a player with pedigree who, if nurtured properly, could still turn into an excellent player.

The loan nature of the deal means that Liverpool have little risk should the move fail to work out. But it may be wise for The Reds to get a buy option included just in case they’ve got a star on their hands.

Another soon to be added to our cohort of Brazilians, then. Fingers crossed Liverpool can get the deal over the line without a hitch.
