Fabrizio Romano shares whether Liverpool have put in buy-clause in Arthur Melo’s loan deal

Liverpool do not have a buy-clause in their loan agreement with Juventus for midfielder Arthur Melo.

That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Posting on Twitter, Romano has now given Arthur’s move to Liverpool his famous ‘here we go’ treatment.

As part of the post, the transfer expert confirmed that Liverpool won’t be able to sign the Brazilian during his loan.

Instead, the loan is a straight season-long deal until June next year.

Liverpool keeping their options open with Arthur

In this scenario, a loan makes complete sense for Liverpool. Arthur is a potential first XI option for The Reds but he has had a difficult last two years at Juventus.

With question marks over his ability to adapt to the Premier League, as well as his injury record, a loan deal is perfect.

Having said that, it’s curious as to why Liverpool wouldn’t include a buy option. Arthur still has a contract for three years at Juventus and should he perform well at Liverpool, will be expensive to buy next summer.

Juve paid a whopping fee for him only two years ago and if he does well, will want to try to recoup a portion of that.

Had The Reds negotiated in a buy-clause, they could potentially have lowered this fee.

Either way, it’s redundant if Arthur doesn’t prove his worth to Liverpool. Now twenty-six, he needs to kickstart his career. He stagnated in Italy and dropping out of regular selection for Brazil as a result.

With that in mind, he should be hungry to get going. The Brazilian has everything to prove at Anfield. He’ll be hopeful of perhaps convincing Liverpool that he can be part of their midfield in the long-term. He may also have eyes on the upcoming World Cup.

Arthur has some familiar faces to help him settle in at Anfield. If he can adapt quickly, he’ll be a really exciting addition. They say never fall in love with a loan player, but if Liverpool do, perhaps they’ll still be able to hash out a deal with Juve. In the meantime, welcome, Arthur!
