Liverpool have been in touch with Jude Bellingham’s father recently as they try to convince the player to move to Anfield.
That’s according to German outlet Sport1. They claim that Liverpool have ‘repeatedly approached’ both Bellingham’s Dad Mark, and his agent Mark Bennett over ‘recent weeks.’
The Reds are getting desperate in their search for a new midfielder. It has long looked as though Bellingham is the number one target.
But according to Sport1, the 19-year-old has no plans to leave Borussia Dortmund right now. The report claims that neither Bellingham nor his agents are ‘thinking of an early departure.’
They also heartily dismiss claims that Liverpool already have a ‘verbal agreement’ with the England star.
Dortmund playing hardball over Bellingham
All signs would point to the fact that Liverpool have tried to make a move for Bellingham during this summer’s window.
However, the answer from Dortmund has always seemed to come emphatically: Their player won’t be leaving.
The popular thinking is that Bellingham will eventually depart, most likely next summer. However, there have been suggestions that Dortmund will fight tooth and nail for him
In the past, the German runners-up have always seemingly accepted that their best players will leave the club. Jurgen Klopp knows this all too well. He regularly lost stars like Robert Lewandowksi and Mario Gotze during his time there.
But with Bellingham, Sport1 report that they are hoping to ‘build a team around him.’ They are reportedly desperately unwilling to sell and would only ‘twitch’ from this thinking if a bid of around £103m should arrive.
From a Liverpool point of view, that’s quite an alarming figure. The Reds have put a lot of their eggs in the Bellingham basket by failing to secure a new midfielder during this transfer window.
Should that number remain the same, or even get bigger, it’s hard to see how Liverpool can compete.
As a result, it seems like a wise move to try to reach out to those close to the player. If Liverpool can convince Bellingham that a move to Merseyside is the right, neigh the only, move for him, then maybe eventually they can strike a better deal. We shall see.
