Former Liverpool player Didi Hamman has suggested that Jurgen Klopp should look at signing a player like Joelinton.

Speaking to GGRECON, Hamman claimed that the Newcastle United man’s profile would be perfect for Liverpool.

“They haven’t got goals from midfield and I think that’s their Achilles heel. I watched Newcastle United versus Manchester City last week and looking at that I think they need a midfielder with presence,” said the German.

“You look at Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Thiago, they’re all similar, tidy players, I think they could do with someone like Joelinton from Newcastle. I think he’s someone who’s technically gifted, who’s a big lad, and has a great strike on him.

“I think that’s the type of player they miss. Whether you can get him now with a few days of the transfer window left to go, I’m not too sure. If there’s one area where they could do with a player, it’s in midfield.”

Liverpool searching for their very own Joelinton

There’s no question that Joelinton has come on leaps and bounds over recent months at Newcaslte.

Eddie Howe has converted the 26-year-old from an aimless forward into a really effective box-to-box midfielder. It’s hard to argue with Hamman’s point that Liverpool are missing a big, physical presence like him.

Of course that doesn’t mean that Liverpool should be looking at Joelinton specifically. The Brazilian cost Newcastle a princely £40m when he signed in 2019 and wouldn’t come cheap.

He’s been transformed into a key player for the Magpies and is a bona-fide fan favourite. Not an easy deal to do. There’s also the rather large question over whether he’s good enough for a team like Liverpool.

Instead, The Reds could perhaps looks for a midfielder in that mould.

Of course, they were trying to bring in Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco this summer. In terms of stature, he’s not dissimilar to Joelinton. The Frenchman also offers more goal threat having out-scored ‘Big Joe’ last season. But alas, Tchouameni joined Real Madrid.

The hunt must go on for Liverpool, though. It looks unlikely that they’ll be able to bring anyone in over the next two days, but they seem to know exactly what they’re looking for.

For Joelinton, he’ll get the chance to try to impress the watching Kop tonight at Anfield. It would be a surprise if he were a target for Liverpool, but they could do far worse.
