Stefan Bajcetic set a Liverpool record against Bournemouth as the Reds won 9-0. The 17-year-old has a very bright future.
Stefan Bajcetic made some Liverpool history on Saturday afternoon. The Spaniard made it on to the pitch for his competitive debut, replacing Jordan Henderson on 70 minutes.
With that, Bajcetic becomes Liverpool’s youngest-ever non-British Premier League player at 17 years and 309 days. It’s a record that could stand for a little while, too, if only because signing non-British youngsters is now incredibly difficult.
English clubs can no longer sign EU players under 18 after Brexit. Bajcetic’s transfer was finalised in December 2020, specifically with that change in mind. Liverpool essentially had to get it done that month.
And so it means that the Reds won’t sign a non-British player as young as Bajcetic for a very long time. Not unless they re-join the EU.
This is a record that could stand for a very long time. It’s difficult to see it ever breaking.

We’re happy Bajcetic got this record because he has the required quality. The teenager is a big talent, as he showed over pre-season – Henderson labelled him ‘brilliant’ for his efforts.
And Bajcetic truly could have a senior place this season. We’ll see what the Reds do over the remainder of this transfer window but right now, he’s Fabinho’s understudy. That’s certainly how the player sees it, anyway.
He’s an impressive player. Bajcetic already looks good enough to hold his own at the top level and has a very, very long way to go in his career. Give him some cup games here and there and perhaps he’s a special player come the end of the season.
Then we can look back on this record-breaking debut as just the start. A memorable day for Liverpool, to say the least.
