'I always try': 17-year-old Liverpool talent is studying one player in training who he sees as 'the best'

Stefan Bajcetic says he’s studying one Liverpool player in training who he believes is ‘the best’. The 17-year-old looks set for a big year.

Stefan Bajcetic is a name that Liverpool fans might hear a lot of this season. The 17-year-old has taken a big step this summer, after all, shining in pre-season both in games and training.

There’s a lot to love about Bajcetic, in fact. He’s a physical player who looks comfortable on the ball, all while offering Liverpool cover in two positions. Primarily a centre-back, the teenager is increasingly impressing as a holding midfielder.

Developing in that role is the next major step for Bajcetic, who admits he’s trying to learn from ‘the best’ in training.

“I always played centre-back growing up but now I think I’m capable of playing [in the holding role],” Bajcetic told Liverpoolfc.com. “If they give me the opportunity, I will.

“To be honest, I don’t mind [where I play]. I just want to play football. If the staff and coach thinks I’m needed there, I will play there.

“Especially for this club, the way he [Fabinho] plays, I think, is the best, and I always try to look at him and learn from him.

“It’s obviously tough to play like him but I always try to look at him and learn from his positioning, his pressing and all that.”

It really does seem that Liverpool have a lot of faith in Bajcetic. That seemed clear when he remained with the first-team after the pre-season tour, while Tyler Morton’s imminent departure on loan appears to open the path to a squad role.

We were very impressed with Bajcetic against RB Leipzig, for instance, and he looks at home as a backup to Fabinho. The fact he can also be a fifth-choice centre-back only increases his value to the squad.

And all of this at just 17. We can’t wait to see what Bajcetic brings this season, let alone over the next few years. Liverpool might have found another impressive one here.
